Why Year 5 Summer Testing Changes 11+ Preparation
Why an earlier Year 5 entrance test changes the preparation timeline for Trafford grammar school families.
There is less time for last-minute preparation
When an 11+ test is sat in September of Year 6, families often use the summer holiday for final revision. If the test moves to the summer term of Year 5, that final runway disappears.
This changes the rhythm of preparation. Year 4 foundations and early Year 5 diagnosis become much more important.
What should happen earlier
Children should build reading stamina, vocabulary, arithmetic fluency and problem-solving confidence before the test year becomes intense. In early Year 5, parents should know which gaps need teaching and which skills need timed practice.
The goal is not pressure. The goal is to avoid panic by starting with the right foundations early enough.
